STOCKS, BEQUESTS and TRUSTS
Anyone can donate to Friends of Los Gatos Library through gifts other than cash. These may include gifts of stocks, life insurance policies, bequests, and charitable trusts. Also referred to as "planned gifts," these types of gifts are important in maintaining Friends of Los Gatos Library's financial vitality and ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from the Friends' programs and services. Making charitable contributions in the form of appreciated securities entitles the donor the opportunity to avoid capital gains tax while receiving a charitable gift tax deduction for the full market value of the stock (actual deductible value is determined by taking the average of the high and low of the security market value on the day of the stock transfer to Friends of Los Gatos Library). Persons interested in making a gift of securities to the Friends should contact Katherine Cance at (408) 425-7306 to discuss transfer of stock options.
Friends of Los Gatos Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible and will be used in our work to:
- encourage use of the library for the pursuit of knowledge, information and entertainment
- heighten public awareness of the library and its resources
- raise funds for library needs, and
- provide hands-on volunteer help to the library and its patrons.
